AZ Guard Training and Certification

Location of Training:    Cherokee Firearms Training Facility, Whetstone, AZ (meet at Shell station at SE corner of intersection of Hwy 90 and Hwy 82 at 0730);  if there are any changes or special locations, it will be listed in the course flyer
  • Courses maybe scheduled up to twice a month, and will be designated by the respective month
  • During checkout you must choose Month A or Month B; A and B will be listed on the Calendar and Flyer
  • There will be 12 slots per class
  • After checking out/paying via our SquareUp page, return to this page and fill out the form at the bottom of this page; this will include the information needed to complete your registration, but you must checkout and pay first to ensure there is still a seat for you in your desired class.
Note: Students with SERPA holsters must identify themselves to instructors before shooting any courses of fire.

Armed Guard Courses

New Guards:

              To serve as an armed security guard you must have in your possession an AZ DPS-issued armed guard card. To apply for your card you must successfully complete the 8 hour unarmed guard training and the 16 hour armed guard training. This course provides the 16 hours of armed guard minimum mandatory training that you need, with some added information from Raven One-Five.

 

-Course:  Two 9-hour days, including 30 minutes for lunch

-Class Times:  0800-1700 (8:00 AM – 5:00PM)

-Course Cost:    $220.00 [Click Here to Pay]

Packing List:   

  • Note pad and pen

  • Water and lunch

  • Comfortable outdoor clothing

  • Duty weapon, 3 magazines, magazine pouch, holster, carry rig

  • 100 rounds of ammunition minimum

  • Eye and ear protection (everyday glasses/sunglasses OK)

  • Hat and sunscreen (optional)

Classes:

  1. Introduction and safety briefing (Note: live ammunition allowed in the classroom)

  2. Firearm safe handling and storage

  3. Law and legal

  4. Weapon care and maintenance

  5. Mental conditioning and tactics

  6. Weapon manipulation and marksmanship

  7. Threat recognition and judgmental shooting

  8. Written test (30-question DPS provided test. 70% minimum passing score with correction to 100%. Less than 70% score fails the class and student must be retrained.)

Renewals: 

          To serve as an armed security guard you must have in your possession an AZ DPS issued armed guard card. Your card must be renewed every year. To renew your card you must successfully complete 8 hours of mandatory training. This course is the mandatory training that you need.

-Course:  One 9-hour day, including 30 minutes for lunch

-Class Times:  0800-1700 (8:00 AM – 5:00PM)

-Course:  One 8.5-hour day, including 30 minutes for lunch

-Class Times:    0800-1630 (8:00 AM – 4:40PM)

Please Note:

If not enrolled in one of the CCW/2nd Amendment Lawyer 24/7 programs, make sure to consult a lawyer about a basic statement to have on hand following an incident that you can use until you consult a lawyer.  In AZ there is no "24hr" hold like in the movies.  If you can not contact your lawyer and can not give at least a brief statement giving facts to show it was self defense/defense of another, you will most likely be arrested and booked into jail.

 

-By not contact I mean, they don't answer at night, they don't call back after leaving a message with their answering service, they don't have an answering service on weekends/holidays, etc
